ICI Akzo & Veri-Tag
Has anyone read about ICI Akzo bringing out the ''latest in paint technology'' with its Veri-Tag formula.

You won't be able to put the cheaper brands of paint into a Dulux can now, all you cheeky monkies out there  [Image: acute.gif]
Dulux are trying to rule the industry just like the BBC in television  Biggrin

Technology is advancing way too quick ATM  Omgblink

Re: ICI Akzo & Veri-Tag
You have gotta be kidding? what bleedin nonsense. I bet there are very few of us which can tell exactly what brand of paint is on the wall once it has dried. To be honest, who would really want know, unless the colour was markedly different.

This is the trouble with Dulux,  to they charge so much for their paint, they are 'innovative' in spending all the profits on useless gimmicks. Plus, they go one further in assuming that most of us decorators' are cheat - I am offended. Whistle

Re: ICI Akzo & Veri-Tag
It will probably offend quite a few decorators across the globe, Ag. If it has spanned that far.

I was gonna say Bag, hold on a cotton pickin' minute mate, you're one of those said deccies  Lol

Are they mentioning this over on yonder Dlx boards? Is it upsetting any deccies by way of suggesting that they are toshing and cheating on their customers, hence Dlx bringing in this technology. Or is it just a way to spend profits on gimmicks as Aggie says?

Re: ICI Akzo & Veri-Tag
I doubt it's aimed at solo deccies and HO. More likely for when huge contracts are given out and priced specifying Dulux and the contractors get it mixed in Glidden or some cheap paint and it happens all the time.

Re: ICI Akzo & Veri-Tag
To be fair I don't mind it. Once specifiers become aware of it will be a good thing IMO

Just last week I was asked to price for a large listed building in Brighton, I walked around the job and had a nosey in some of the cupboards and found some paint - It was Jonhstones paint marked with 'Barley White - D eqvi'. After taking some notes I went back to the MA's office and asked what the paint colours where, they told me and I asked in Johnstones? "No, never we always spec Dulux" They were a bit taken aback when I said it had been painted in Johnstones. Of course this time anybody thinking they will price for Dulux and use Johnstones will get a shock when the get caught out. All good in my book,  I hate pricing against others who don't play by the rules.

Of course it's not going to make much difference to small domestic jobs but the savings on this job to change from D to J are about £1,500. So you can see why it happens so often on commercial sites. Dulux must have figured out they were losing business this way and that's why they developed it no doubt.

It won't make much difference to me as 80% of our work is domestic but when we do commercials it's nice to know others can't undercut us because they have no intention of using the spec'd paint

Re: ICI Akzo & Veri-Tag
I used to sub to a large company in Maidstone. In the company's infancy, we ''sometimes'' were told to to get Crown/Jono's instead of Dlx.
P'raps even pour other paints into Dlx tins if need be  Whistle
More often than not we just used to work out of our vans so no tins were seen. It is a Commercial thing isn't it!

The thing is, if you have an ICI account because you do a lot of commercial, you'd be foolish to use anything but Dlx.

No, it won't affect me, MND. Us Resi deccies can sway our customers to choose a manufacturer of our choice. I have just done this tonight while pricing a complete internal.

Re: ICI Akzo & Veri-Tag
It's rare I ever get to choose manufacturer, I would say over 90% of tender docs I recieve specify ICI/Akzo which to be honest suits me as I can't abide Crown and Johnstones is way too dear. Unless they want to vanish then PPG and Crown need to get their specifiers out there crossing palms or whatever it takes to get their products on tender docs.
